Common Questions

What is a Notary Public?

A Notary Public in British Columbia is a legal professional that provides a range of non-contentious legal services to the public.  Our services include, but are not limited to, notarization services, representing clients when they buy, sell or refinance properties located in British Columbia and preparing Wills, Power of Attorneys, and Representation Agreements for use in British Columbia.

What documents do I need to bring to my notarization appointment?

You will need to bring with you the original document that you require to be notarized, one piece of valid government-issued photo ID that is non-expired, and a second piece of valid ID (could be a bank card with your name on it or another piece of valid government issued ID).  Please ensure that you complete the information (but don't sign yet!) on the form you require to be notarized prior to your appointment to avoid any issues at your appointment.  A Notary cannot notarize a blank document or a document missing key information as you are swearing or affirming that the information on the form is correct when you sign your  document in front of the Notary.

How long does a notarization take?

The time required for a notarization varies depending on the complexity of the document.  It can be quick (15 minutes) or take longer depending on the complexity of the document or number of documents that you require to be notarized.  This is also dependent on how ready you come to your notarization appointment.

Can you witness my signature digitally/can I sign the document I need notarized prior to meeting with you?

No, we do not notarize documents through electronic means and you must sign in front of the Notary in order for your document to be notarized.

It will only take a minute! How far in advance should I be calling for a notarization?

We typically book 5 or more business days in advance, however, the timing is based on the availability of the Notary and can change depending on our current workload. We always recommend you call well in advance of the day you require a notarization to avoid potential scheduling issues.
